FN FAL (Fusil Automatique Leger - 軽自動 ライフル)
ベルギーのFN社で開発された、突撃銃(アサルトライフル）もしくはバトルライフル

全長1110mm、重量4.45kg、使用弾薬 7.62x51mm NATO (.308 Winchester)
装弾数 20　連射速度　600-700発/分

動作方式はロングストロークガスピストン方式、ティルトボルト(落ち込み閉鎖)方式、ハンマー打撃方式。同様のロック方式は日本の64式、ソ連のSKSなど。
セミオート、フルオート(イギリスのL1A1はセミオートのみ)
ボックスマガジン採用

7.62x51mm NATO弾を使用したもっともポピュラーなライフル。WW2後ドイツの7.92x33mm Kurzを使用したMP42,MP43などに影響され開発、動作方式は当時の軽機関銃、使用弾薬は
イギリスの280(7x43mm)を使用してＦＡＬ−280を開発した。しかし、NATOの中心たるアメリカがT65弾(7.62x51mm)をNATO標準にしたため、設計しなおし現在のFALを開発した。しかし、その結果フルオートではコントロールしづらくなってしまった。

イギリスではセミオートのみ、またヤードポンド法で製造しているのでメートル法で製造している他のFALとは厳密には部品の互換性がないそうである。

西ドイツもG1として採用したがWW2の遺恨からライセンス生産の許可を出さなかった。よってSIG SG510をG2として採用し、その後スペインのセトメを改良したH&K HK31を開発しG3として採用する。

多くの国で採用され、フォークランド紛争などはFAL同士の戦いになった。

7.62mmのフルパワーと5.56mmのセミパワーのどちらが優れているの難しい問題である。
7.62x51mm NATO弾を強く主張したアメリカは皮肉にもベトナム戦争で5.56mmx45mmのM16を陸軍は大量採用した。しかし、開けたアフガンなどでは問題を指摘されているようである。小銃の運用の大部分は近距離であり、また補給や携帯弾薬の量を考えると5.56mmのセミパワーの方が有利であるが、開けた場所などでアウトレンジから撃たれることを考えるとそうも言い切れない。都市伝説のたぐいであるが、フォークランド紛争の時M16（L85?)を持った英軍の射程外からアルゼンチン軍がFALで射撃し、またその射程外から英軍が銃機関銃(ブレン？）で射撃し、またその射程外からアルゼンチン軍がM2機関銃で射撃し、こんどはまた射程外から英軍が対戦車ミサイル（ミラン？）で撃破したという話がある。

コミック21話のFALはストックの形状や銃身長などがわからないので一応PARAではなくstandardなFALではないかと、しかし、イギリスつながりでL1A1の可能性も捨てきれない。
